Friday, October 2, 2009

Planning is underway for the 4th Bi-National Conference for Promotores de Salud. The conference is being organized by the Mario E. Ramirez, M.D. Library at the Regional Academic Health Center in partnership with several agencies in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Supported through a 2009 Express Outreach Award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Center Region (NN/LM SCR), the conference will build upon the success of past promotores conferences and provide much-needed learning opportunities for community health workers in the Rio Grande Valley border region. Travel stipends to attend the conference will be made available to librarians interested in collaborating with community health workers to establish similar programs in their own communities. The conference will be scheduled to coincide with Bi-National Health Week, October 5th-9th, 2009. Conference program details and registration information will be announced at a later date.
This project is funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. N01-LM-6-3505 with the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library.

Women & Power: Connecting Across the Generations
September 11-13, 2009

Dr. Nogales is appearing at the Omega Institute’s conference entitled, “Women & Power: Connecting Across the Generations” September 11-13, 2009. Every year women from all over the world gather for this conference eager to share experience, expertise, wisdom, and camaraderie, and to hear from some of today’s finest women leaders.
For the past seven years, Omega’s Women & Power conferences have been attended by thousands of women from around the world. Hailed for their groundbreaking speakers and uplifting community atmosphere, the gatherings have helped define an emerging women’s movement that balances inner wisdom with outer action.
This year we are breaking new ground again and addressing a timely topic, the need for women of different ages to gather and inspire each other across the generations. Our speakers and workshop leaders are trailblazers from several generations who will be in conversation with each other and us throughout the weekend.
In an era when women’s wisdom is needed more than ever, it will take all of us to weave the lessons learned in past generations into the realities facing women today. During the weekend—in keynote talks, breakout workshops, informal conversations, and evening entertainment—we have the unique experience to hear from and connect with women from different generations, to empower each other, and to discuss the big questions facing women today.
Workshop Description
Dr. Ana Nogales presents:
7 Strengths We Inherit from Our Mothers & Grandmothers
We each inherit strengths from our mothers, our grandmothers, and other valued women to whom we are connected. As we come to appreciate this rich inheritance, we can learn to integrate what has been bequeathed to us. In this 7 Strengths Workshop, we’ll explore how to best honor and employ the creative spirit, determination, diplomacy, courage, camaraderie, balance and confidence that have been handed down to us from preceding generations of women. |

Nogales Plaza Grand Opening
Nogales Psychological Counseling, Inc.
Santa Ana, California
Friday, July 10, 2009
On July 15 this article was published in the OCRegister and in OCRegister.com
Clinical center opens in Santa Ana.
Latino Notebook
The Orange County Register.
Nogales Plaza: Friday marked the opening of the Nogales Plaza. The new clinical center will serve as the new corporate office for the non-profit organization, Casa de la Familia.
The plaza, opened by Dr. Ana Nogales, clinical director and president, will continue the efforts of the Casa de la Familia program, which provides mental and psychological care to families throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The health services provided at the plaza will be geared towards crime victims. Therapy and counseling will be available for victims and their families, either at an in-office location or at the patient's homes. In some cases treatment may be available to qualified patients via a referral from a police department or shelter.
The non-profit specializes in bi-cultural and bilingual services. Chief Operations Officer, Yolanda Hernandez explained what Casa de la Familia's goal is in the immediate community.
"We do our best to eliminate the stigma that is around mental help services, especially in the Latino community. People don't want to be considered crazy. The stigma disallows them access to what they need," Hernandez said.

Nogales Plaza at 1650 E. 4th Street, is open to the public for mental help services as well as opportunities to volunteer. For more information, call 714-667-5220 or visit casadelafamilia.org.
